Norwegian Flat Bread Recipe

 1 ½ cups whole wheat flour
½ cup sugar
½ cup butter or margarine softened
1 cup boiling water
4 cups white flour
1 cup buttermilk
2 Tsp. baking powder
1 ½ Tsps. salt
1 Tsp. baking soda

Heat oven to 400 degrees.

In a large bowl combine whole wheat flour, sugar, butter and water.  Let stand until cool (5 minutes).  Stir in remaining ingredients using enough flour to make dough easy to handle.  Turn dough onto lightly floured surface – knead until thoroughly mixed.  Divide dough in to 18-20 pieces – roll each circle to about 4 inches.  Prick tops with fork.  Place on ungreased cookie sheet – bake for about 10-12 minutes until lightly browned.

Put bread in plastic bags after it has cooled.  Zip lock bags work well. – Carol Hage
